Damián Suarez’s daughter reveals emotional Getafe farewell letter: ‘You didn’t want to leave’

The daughter of now-former Getafe defender Damián Suarez today revealed an emotion-filled letter, providing an insight into his departure from the club.

The name of full-back Suarez has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain across the week to date.

This comes after rampant speculation was followed by an official announcement that the 35-year-old had reached an agreement with Getafe, over the early termination of his contract with the club.

As much comes with the Uruguayan understood to have a multi-year proposal on the table from Brazilian outfit Botafogo.

Despite his terms at the Estadio Coliseum having been due to come to an end in the summer, and his career entering its twilight years, Suarez’s exit has nevertheless come as a hefty blow to Getafe.

The one-time Elche man had continued to act as an integral member of José Bordalás’ backline this season, considered something of a club icon owing to his near decade-long stay.

In turn, it should not come as a great surprise to hear that Suarez’s decision to move on did not mark an easy one to make.

In a letter made public on Wednesday, as cited by Diario Sport, the defender’s daughter moved to reassure her father that he was making the correct call, despite the fact that he ‘did not want to leave’:

“I am writing this letter to you so that you realize that you are the best father in the world, and do not doubt it because you are and always will be. I know that you did not want to leave your team (Getafe) because you have your friends there, with whom you have had experiences, jokes and many more things, but fate has made us have to move and it is very hard after many years.”

“I didn’t want to be separated from my colleagues either, but if you work on things in which you have to change countries/cities, that’s what you have to do.”

She concluded:

“You are the best father, so please don’t change. Your friends and family see you great just the way you are with your super character. You have made a spectacular family and you have done everything for your daughters Cayetana and Martina. We love you very much.”
