Could Neymar follow Lionel Messi out the door at PSG?

Lionel Messi’s likely departure from PSG might not be the only one this summer. Neymar could reportedly follow in the Argentine’s footsteps and leave the Ligue 1 club, according to RMC Sport and UOL Esporte.

After PSG tried to sell the forward last summer, it is now the Brazilian who has opened the door to a move, something that undoubtedly helps PSG in their intentions to build a project with Kylian Mbappé at the forefront of it.

A year ago, Neymar activated the clause that unilaterally extended his contract with PSG for one more season, until 2027. Despite the French club’s insistence on selling him, the player’s high financial demands prevented him from leaving the Parc des Princes. However, the situation seems to have taken a 180-degree turn and the player is open to a potential exit.

Neymar’s situation at PSG

Neymar was initially looking to stay in Paris, but the wear and tear of the season has been taxing. Several ultras went to his home to demand his departure from the club, an unpleasant situation that adds to PSG’s intentions to get rid of him six years after he signed for €222m.

The requirements for his transfer are clear: he would have to give up part of his salary and lower his wages to fit in at a new club. The club that signs him would also have to make a financial effort to bring him in, although PSG do not rule out a loan with an option to buy deal.

Barça return?

If he leaves Paris, there is already speculation about his potential destinations. RMC Sport claims that there are three clubs that have shown interest in the Brazilian star and all three are Premier League teams.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle have the potential to make a move for Neymar, although, according to a report in Mundo Deportivo, journalist Julien Laurens says that he would be willing to wait for an offer to return to FC Barcelona, the only club he would go to if he were to return to La Liga.
