Could Mateu Lahoz become the next president of the Spanish FA?

According to Marca, former referee Mateu Lahoz is one of the candidates to become the next president of the Spanish FA (RFEF). The former referee is being linked with the role after the resignation of Luis Rubiales following his controversial kiss with Spain international Jenni Hermoso after Spain won the World Cup Down Under.

As explained by the aforementioned media, the former official would have the support of the clubs, and the approval of the powers that be in Spanish football, including La Liga, the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) and FIFA, a sum of endorsements that puts him in pole position for the role.

Lahoz, ‘Toño’ to those closest to him, retired from refereeing last season after more than 30 years, twelve of them at international level. He has yet to make any statement on the matter, as the election process for the presidency has not officially begun. His intention to review the current refereeing model and its structures is well known, something that is very much to the liking of Spanish clubs.
