La Liga giants Real Madrid ultimately made the call to fork over a fee, to fast track the arrival of Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold at the club.
That’s according to transfer insider David Ornstein of The Athletic, who has provided an insight into the latest discussions behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.
The name of defender Alexander-Arnold has of course dominated the headlines across all of Europe over the course of the day to date.
This comes after the England international’s long-awaited move to Real Madrid was at last made official.
In an announcement across the club’s website and social media platforms, Los Blancos announced:
‘Real Madrid C. F. and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold for the next six seasons, from 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2031.’
Whilst it was previously thought that Alexander-Arnold would arrive for free, however, this has not proven to be the case.
As per the aforementioned David Ornstein, to ensure the right-back’s participation at the upcoming Club World Cup, Real Madrid have agreed to pay Liverpool €10 million.
