Chief Barcelona target to wait for Xavi future update before signing contract

A chief summer transfer target on the part of La Liga giants Barcelona is ready to delay putting pen to paper on a contract with the Blaugrana, until the situation on the club’s bench is clarified.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Guido Rodríguez as the player in question.

Midfielder Guido, it is understood, put a verbal agreement in place with the Barcelona brass, over the terms of a pre-contract for the summer earlier this month.

As much comes ahead of the imminent expiration of the World Cup winner’s terms with Real Betis.

Xavi, for his part, green-lighted Guido’s addition, of the opinion that the Argentine would add some much-needed steel and experience to the base of his midfield.

Mounting speculation surrounding a potential parting of ways between Barcelona and their head coach, however, has seemingly cast the deal into doubt.

Though some outlets have assured that Guido will be brought in regardless of the situation in the Camp Nou dugout, the aforementioned Sport suggest that:

‘The midfielder would like to know who will occupy the Barça bench before the final signing.’

Such a stance on the part of the 30-year-old is altogether understandable, with Guido keen to ensure that the arrival of a profile the likes of Hansi Flick or Thomas Tuchel in Barcelona would not see him immediately bumped down the pecking order in the middle of the park.
