Chelsea and Brighton reach agreement for Marc Cucurella

Chelsea and Brighton have reached an agreement for Marc Cucurella in a deal worth over £50m, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Spanish left-back, who had handed in a transfer request at Brighton, has already agreed personal terms with the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Manchester City were interested in signing the former Getafe player but would not agree to pay the asking price. City’s initial bid of £30 million was turned down by Brighton.

Cucurella could act as the potential replacement for fellow Spanish left-back Marcos Alonso, who is being courted by Barcelona.

The 24-year-old is an exciting full-back who can also play as a wing-back. He came through the Barcelona youth academy but failed to become a regular for the Blaugrana.

Before joining Brighton in the summer of 2021, Cucurella played for Eibar and Getafe in La Liga. He made 38 appearances in all competitions in an impressive campaign for the Seagulls last season and scored one goal.
