Celta Vigo star to miss Villarreal clash through injury

A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga outfit Celta Vigo will play no part in the club’s upcoming meeting with Villarreal.

This comes amid confirmation on the part of manager Claudio Giráldez that Carl Starfelt is yet to recover full fitness.

Stopper Starfelt was for his part forced to limp out of Celta Vigo’s La Liga clash with Espanyol on April 12th, owing to a hamstring issue.

The Swede, in turn, was forced to sit out as his teammates fell to a last-gasp defeat at the hands of Barcelona this past weekend.

The hope was that Starfelt would have recovered fitness in time to play his part against Villarreal on Wednesday night.

Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference today, however, the aforementioned Claudio Giráldez confirmed that this will not be the case:

“He did something with the group today, it was a bit of a test run, but he’s not ready for the match, nor do we want to take that risk. The Copa del Rey break could mean he’ll be in perfect condition for the match against Real Madrid.”
