Carlo Ancelotti speaks out on Miguel Gutiérrez’s potential Real Madrid return

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti today provided an insight into the chances of Miguel Gutiérrez making his way back to the club in the summer.

Gutiérrez, for his part, secured a permanent departure from Spain’s capital back in the summer of 2022.

After managing nine La Liga appearances in the colours of Los Blancos, the left-back opted for pastures new in a bid to rack up more consistent playing time.

And, to his credit, Gutiérrez has since gone on to manage precisely that.

After notching 34 league appearances last time out, the 22-year-old has proven an integral member of Girona’s backline this season, too, featuring from the off in all but one of the club’s outings amid a shock push for the La Liga title.

And yet, the prospect of a potential return to the aforementioned Real Madrid looms large.

Los Merengues maintain 50% of Gutiérrez’s playing rights, meaning a deal similar to that struck for Fran García during the summer could be sought out for the Spanish youth international at some point down the line, too.

And, if the latest comments on the part of Carlo Ancelotti are anything to go by, as much could well come with a view to next season.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Real boss Ancelotti was drawn on the subject of Gutiérrez’s potential return.

This comes fresh off claims in the media this week that the defender rejected a big-money move to the Premier League in January, in the hopes of securing a Santiago Bernabéu comeback.

And though as much could of course hinge on the outcome of Los Blancos’ pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, Ancelotti hinted that the transfer is indeed being considered:

“Miguel Gutiérrez has improved a lot at Girona. He’s playing very well — so we will decide in [the] summer what to do”.
