Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has sprung something of a surprise regarding the goalkeeping pecking order at the club, late on Sunday night.
Real, of course, are fresh off securing the club’s first piece of silverware of the campaign.
Owing to a rampant display, Ancelotti’s troops put four goals past arch rivals Barcelona, to clinch the Supercopa de España crown.
At the other end of the pitch, meanwhile, shot-stopper Andriy Lunin, despite conceding to Robert Lewandowski, largely impressed once more.
After Kepa Arrizabalaga failed to deliver in the Super Cup semi-final against Atlético, Lunin was restored between the posts in his place, with the assumption, in turn, having been that the Ukrainian would maintain his spot over the days and weeks to come.
This, however, is in fact not set to be the case.
Speaking to the media on the back of his side’s triumph in Riyadh this evening, Carlo Ancelotti was asked for a fresh insight into his goalkeeper plans moving forward.
And the Italian went on to reveal that, whilst tonight was Lunin’s night, Kepa is in line to take back starting duties upon Real’s return to La Liga action:
“It was a game for Lunin, Kepa will return in the league.”
