Carlo Ancelotti provides update on Real Madrid penalty-taker pecking order after latest miss

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has spoken out on the penalty-taker situation in his squad, on the back of the club’s meeting with Athletic Club.

This, of course, comes after Real’s woes from 12 yards cost them dear once more.

Los Blancos were put to the sword by two goals to one at San Mamés on Wednesday, a 4th defeat in seven across all competitions.

Along the way, Ancelotti’s troops were afforded a clear-cut chance to draw level during the 2nd-half, from the penalty spot.

After Jude Bellingham confidently dispatched a spot-kick against Getafe last weekend, however, it was Kylian Mbappé who on this occasion took responsibility once more.

And, just a week on from fluffing his lines at a pivotal moment at Anfield, the France international did likewise against Athletic, his weak effort kept out by Julen Agirrezabala.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle last night, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the penalty pecking order in his squad was put to Carlo Ancelotti once more.

In his response, however, Real Madrid’s headmaster reiterated that the decision will continue to be made on the pitch, between a trio of players:

“A change of penalty takers? No, there’s three: Bellingham, Vinícius and Mbappé.”
