Carlo Ancelotti spoke about Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League match with Chelsea.
“Benzema is a modern-day forward. In the past, the number nine would stand in the box and finish off whatever came his way. Karim is what modern football demands of a striker, finishing, playing, defensive work… He is the perfect representation of what a centre forward must be today,” Ancelotti said in quotes picked up by AS.
Benzema has scored 11 times in the Champions League this campaign. Ancelotti then turned to Madrid greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale as he discussed his current front line.
“The season says that there are two strikers who have stood out a lot, Vinicius and Benzema. In the past we had Cristiano, Bale… To say that we are dependent on Benzema is the truth, there is no need to hide it. I’m very happy to be dependent on Benzema”.
