Carlo Ancelotti ‘considering’ moving Real Madrid star into new position

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is giving serious consideration to moving Éder Militão to right-back at some point over the weeks ahead.

That’s according to The Athletic, who have on Tuesday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.

The subject of Real Madrid’s plans at right-back has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines over the course of the last couple of days.

This comes after Dani Carvajal was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

Stretchered out of Real Madrid’s La Liga downing of Villarreal over the weekend, the Spanish international was subsequently diagnosed with ‘a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, a ruptured external collateral ligament and a ruptured popliteus tendon in his right leg’.

The obvious replacement in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is Lucas Vázquez, expected to play an increasingly prominent role over the months ahead.

What, though, when Vázquez requires a rest, or is himself struggling for fitness?

As per a report from The Athletic, another option being considered is sliding Éder Militão across to full-back:

‘Moving Brazilian centre-back Militão out wide is another option Ancelotti is considering,’ it is confirmed.

Though the priority is to maintain the central defensive partnership between Militão and Antonio Rüdiger, Ancelotti and his coaching staff are aware that they may need to get creative at right-back over the course of the season, with the former’s characteristics meaning he is highly likely to be tested in the role at some point or another.
