Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Éder Militão will be asked to fill in at full-back at points over the remainder of the season.
This, of course, comes owing to the long-term injury suffered by first-choice Blancos right-back Dani Carvajal.
Spanish international Carvajal was earlier this month ruled out for what is expected to be the remainder of the campaign, through a ruptured ACL.
In his absence, a vastly more prominent role will now be afforded to Lucas Vázquez, who has long been content with a backup role in Real’s backline.
The Spanish champions, though, will also require a new stand-in right-back, for occasions on which Vázquez either requires rest, or is unavailable for selection.
And, speaking to the media on Friday, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed his choice to fill this role.
During a press conference ahead of his side’s La Liga meeting with Celta Vigo on Saturday, the Italian tactician explained:
“Right-back position? [It will be] Lucas Vázquez and Éder Militão.”
