Carlo Ancelotti confident of new deals for Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić at Real Madrid

Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić could be set for new deals with Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti spoke about life with and without his midfield pair.

“There is progress [on new contracts] because they are talking and I think that in the end a solution will be found. Senior players can have moments of better or worse during a season, it’s quite normal and it happens to all players, but we have to evaluate them not by age, but by what they do,” Madrid head coach Ancelotti said on Friday in words transcribed by Mundo Deportivo.

“They don’t have the energy of the youngsters, but the way they handle games is unique and you can’t buy them in any market in the world. Experience takes something away from you but it also gives you something and it has given them the way to handle games,” he added.

That said, Ancelotti did leave a thought for the day when Kroos and Modrić retire. “I think they will continue but we also have to think about the day they stop. The future of the club lies elsewhere” said the Italian, adding, “We have fantastic young players like Camavinga, Tchouaméni, Valverde and Ceballos who are going to mark an era at Real Madrid, which will be different to that of Modrić, Kroos and Casemiro”.
