Can Myrto Uzuni guide Granada back to Spain’s top flight?

Granada forward Myrto Uzuni is having the best season of his career. He has already surpassed his personal best from five seasons ago when he scored 17 goals in 26 games.

The Albania international has scored 20 goals in 30 Segunda División games in 2022-23 as Granada look to return to Spain’s top flight.

The goals per game ratio of 0.67 places Uzuni among the best forwards in Europe. At the age of 27, he has shown his commitment to the Andalusian club after last season’s relegation from Primera.

Despite having offers, especially in the winter transfer window, he has opted to stay in Granada with the aim of a swift return to the top.

He said in an interview with AS: “The club was relegated to the Segunda División with me and now it’s my job to bring it back to the top flight. It’s like a boat alone in the sea that you’re not going to leave adrift. That’s my mentality and that’s what my parents taught me, not to abandon the people who love you when you need them”.

Uzuni top scorer in Segunda

Uzuni has 24 goal involvements in the league (four assists), and with eight games to go this season, he has a six-goal cushion over Mirandés’ Raúl García, his nearest challenger in the competition’s top scorer rankings.

Granada currently sit third in the table, on 61 points, one point behind Las Palmas in second and three points behind Eibar at the top.

With Uzuni in attack, Granada are well-equipped to get over the line in the race for promotion.
