Cádiz stars leave pitch in tears as fan protests force early end to Real Betis defeat

A number of Cádiz’s stars were left on the verge of breakdown following a protest held by the club’s supporters in their latest outing.

Mauricio Pellegrino’s troops marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming Real Betis to the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

The evening’s hosts headed into proceedings absolutely desperate for a positive result, amid a staggering La Liga winless streak dating all the way back to last September.

When all was said and done, however, once more, Cádiz failed to get things back on track.

This came as goals on the part of Willian José and Pablo Fornals guided Real Betis to the right side of an eventual 2-0 result.

And, as alluded to above, late in proceedings, the home crowd at the Nuevo Mirandilla made their feelings with the latest efforts of their side crystal clear.

Removing the plastic yellow raincoats afforded to them to keep out the rain, the Cádiz faithful proceeded to throw them onto the pitch en masse:

As much culminated in referee De Burgos Bengoetxea opting to bring a close to proceedings early, as the situation in Andalusia inches ever closer to breaking point.

So toxic was the atmosphere inside the ground, in fact, that Diario Sport report that several members of El Submarino Amarillo’s squad were spotted departing the pitch ‘with tears in their eyes’.
