Brighton’s Marc Cucurella hands in transfer request

Brighton and Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella has handed in a transfer request as Manchester City continue to show interest, as per Fabrizio Romano.

City’s initial bid of £30 million was turned down by Brighton, who are reportedly seeking a fee closer to the £50 million figure.

However, Cucurella has now put in a transfer request.

The departure of Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal has opened the door for City to pursue Cucurella.

When inquired on the potential transfer of his compatriot, City head coach Pep Guardiola said:

“He’s a Brighton player. I cannot say anything else. If it’s possible, yes, if not, we stay as we are. João Cancelo can play there, as can Josh Wilson-Esbrand and Nathan Aké. I am not complaining about the squad we currently have.”

Cucurella signed for Brighton from Getafe in the summer of 2021 for £15 million and enjoyed a superb campaign, thus garnering interest from the Premier League champions.
