‘Break with the past once and for all’ – Deco drops bombshell on Barcelona managerial plans

Comments on the part of Barcelona sporting director Deco have piqued widespread attentions late on Sunday.

The comments in question, unsurprisingly, come in relation to Barca’s ongoing search for a new head coach.

The subject of the bench in Catalunya’s capital has returned to the forefront of the headlines in a major way over the course of the evening to date.

This comes after the departing Xavi oversaw another alarming display, en route to an eventual 3-3 stalemate with relegation-battling Granada.

Never has the fact that a change is needed at Barcelona been more apparent, with the club’s talent-packed squad having looked like complete strangers on numerous occasions over the course of the 90 minutes.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a source of relief to many of a Blaugrana persuasion to hear that a seismic shift in direction is on the horizon at the Camp Nou.

In an as of yet unreleased interview held with ‘Nascer do Sol’ (as cited by Sport), understood to have taken place on the back of Xavi’s announcement regarding his summer exit, Deco was unsurprisingly asked for the latest on the search for the Spaniard’s replacement.

And Barca’s sporting director showcased little hesitation in confirming that the club are readying a shift away from their famed roots.

In agreement with president Joan Laporta, Deco announced that the Catalan giants intend to bring in a manager who breaks ties with the past ‘once and for all’:

“A radical change is needed. There is a method that is finished. The President is with me. We need to find someone who breaks up with the past once and for all and move towards a new model.”
