Speaking in an interview with French sports daily L’Équipe, former France international Bixente Lizarazu, analysed the situation of the French national team after the fiasco of the European Championship and in the middle of the qualifying phase for the World Cup in Qatar.
Lizarazu paid special attention to Antoine Griezmann’s situation and gave his opinion on the positive impact that his departure from Barcelona and his return to Atlético Madrid could have.
“What Griezmann experienced with Barça weighs on him and has negative repercussions. I hope he does well in his return to Atlético Madrid. But beyond that, things have changed up front for Les Bleus, with Kylian Mbappé and the return of [Karim] Benzema. He [Griezmann] has to find space and it’s not easy. The main problem is how they are going to find the solutions to improve together.”
