Bayern Munich readying defensive change for Real Madrid clash

Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed his intention to shake up his backline for the club’s impending showdown with Real Madrid.

Bayern, of course, are primed to mark their return to action on the continent on Wednesday night.

After battling their way to a 2-2 stalemate in the tie’s opener at the Allianz Arena, the Bavarians will make the trip to Spain’s capital, for a Champions League semi-final 2nd leg meeting with the aforementioned Real Madrid.

Tuchel and co. will head into proceedings in the knowledge that they will need to be at the very top of their game, in order to get the better of a side who time and time again have proven themselves the gold standard on the biggest stage of European football.

All of a Bayern persuasion, in turn, will no doubt be relieved to hear of timely reinforcements being on their way…

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday night, Thomas Tuchel was asked for the latest on the situation at the heart of his defence.

And the German tactician went on to confirm that Matthijs de Ligt, who missed last week’s first leg through injury, is back and available for selection.

Not only that, but the Dutchman is in line for an immediate return to starting duties, after Kim Min-jae endured a night to forget against Real last time out:

“At the moment, Eric Dier and Matthijs de Ligt are ahead (of Upamecano and Kim). They deserve to continue playing together. Matthijs has given the green light and can play tomorrow.”
