Bayer Leverkusen recieve a boost ahead of Atlético Madrid clash as key star returns to training

As reported by our colleagues at Get German Football News, Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has returned to training ahead of his side’s clash against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday evening.

This could possibly pose a threat to Diego Simeone and his Atlético side, as Boniface has been quite the prolific striker over the last two seasons for the German side.

Before his injury, Boniface was on top form with eight goals and an assist in 15 games so far this season, but has since been overtaken by both Florian Wirtz and Patrik Schick on the goal front.

The return of the Nigerian striker to training could possibly indicate his involvement on Tuesday night, where he could certainly provide an option in attack for Xabi Alonso’s side.

The more likely scenario is that Tuesday evening’s clash will have come slightly too early for Boniface to make his return to action, but it is too early to rule anything out.

Regardless of who plays in attack for the German side when they take to the pitch at the Estadio Metropolitano, Diego Simeone’s side will need to be on their toes to smother the attacking threat of Leverkusen.

This isn’t necessarily an ideal situation with Atlético in need of a win to keep their hopes of direct qualification to the last 16 alive.
