Barcelona’s summer midfield target to change if Xavi stays

An insight into the potential knock-on effect of Barcelona head coach Xavi remaining with the club beyond the summer on the plans of the transfer team in Catalunya’s capital has today been forthcoming online.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and points towards Barcelona’s chief midfield target as being dependent on whether Xavi stays, or goes.

In the case of the latter, which of course looks more likely at present, the Blaugrana have four names in mind – Aleix García, Mats Wieffer, Khéphren Thuram, and Amadou Onana.

Of this quartet, the latter is considered the preferred option.

The hefty price-tag slapped on his head by Premier League outfit Everton, however, represents a major stumbling block.

So, what if Xavi springs a surprise, and opts to see out the next year of his contract at the Camp Nou?

In such a scenario, Real Sociedad standout Martín Zubimendi would be sought out, owing to his status as the Spanish tactician’s first-choice.

Xavi, it is understood, is a long-time admirer of Zubimendi’s talents.
