Barcelona’s next signing to arrive ‘today’ with future uncertain

La Liga giants Barcelona are preparing to welcome the club’s next signing to Catalunya’s capital on Tuesday evening. The player primed to imminently link up with the Blaugrana? Dominik Livaković.

Goalkeeper Livaković has of course seen his name emerge as an altogether prominent one in the media headlines surrounding Barcelona over recent weeks.

After word was forthcoming that the Blaugrana were seeking out reinforcements between the posts with a view to the post-Wojciech Szczęsny era, the experienced Croatian international was identified as a leading target.

Livaković is currently out of favour at parent club Fenerbahçe, owing to the presence of former Manchester City standout Ederson.

Over the last 48 hours, the brass at the Spotify Camp Nou ramped up discussions with their counterparts in Istanbul, hopeful of thrashing out a deal for Livaković before the summer is out.

And as alluded to above, on Tuesday, these efforts look set to bear imminent fruit. As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, the 31-year-old has been scheduled to arrive in Spain on Tuesday, ahead of putting pen to paper on a four-year contract.

Ahead of the expiration of his Fenerbahçe contract terms in the summer of 2027, Barcelona will pay just €4 million for the transfer.

MD also note that:

‘Barça initially planned to loan Livakovic to Dinamo Zagreb this season and bring him back next season, once Szczesny’s contract with Barça expires. However, it’s also possible he could stay on as Joan Garcia’s backup.’
