Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal concerns revealed ahead of Napoli

Barcelona are sweating over the fitness of yet another key member of Xavi’s squad, ahead of the club’s upcoming showdown with Napoli.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Tuesday provided a fresh insight into developments in the treatment room in Catalunya’s capital.

The subject of injuries has of course dominated the headlines at Barca over the course of the last 48 hours.

This comes after both Pedri and Frenkie de Jong were ruled out long-term, owing to respective thigh and ankle problems suffered during the Blaugrana’s goalless stalemate with Athletic Club on Sunday.

The midfield pair, as a result, will be unavailable a week from today, when their side welcome Italian champions Napoli to Catalunya, for the 2nd leg of the crunch Champions League Last-16 tie between the clubs.

And they may not be the only ones…

This comes amid confirmation that Lamine Yamal is also struggling to regain full fitness at present.

The young attacker was left on the bench for the entirety of Barcelona’s recent meeting with Getafe, before, once more, missing out on a spot in the club’s starting XI to face Athletic over the weekend.

When drawn on as much by the media, head coach Xavi was quick to assure that he simply felt it time to afford Lamine some much-needed rest.

As per the aforementioned Sport, however, it is in fact due to the Spanish international suffering with ‘discomfort’ in his knee.

Maximum precautions are therefore being taken at present, to ensure that the issue is not exacerbated before next Tuesday’s return to action on the continent.

The plan is for Lamine to feature from the off against Napoli, but as much will ultimately be determined based on his recovery over the coming week.
