An update on the efforts of La Liga giants Barcelona to bring in Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this month has on Friday been provided.
And the news will mark a blow for those holding out hope of a deal coming to fruition.
The name of frontman Rashford has of course proven a prominent one in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several weeks now.
As much comes amid the understanding that the England international has been identified as a leading mid-season transfer target by Barcelona.
Available on loan this month, Rashford is seen as a viable option to reinforce what Hansi Flick considers to be an under-manned area of his squad.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, then a Blaugrana deal for the 27-year-old coming to fruition before the upcoming transfer deadline is looking increasingly unlikely.
As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Barcelona feel Marcus Rashford deal is highly unlikely and almost off, due to Financial Fair Play.’
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, in turn, have positioned themselves in the Rashford sweepstakes.
