Barcelona youngster to miss a year after undergoing surgery

Barcelona starlet Patricio Pacífico is set for a lengthy incoming spell on the sidelines.

This comes after the defender was early this week forced to undergo surgery on a serious knee injury.

Pacífico, for those not familiar with his name, only made the move to Catalunya’s capital this past January, in a loan deal from Uruguayan outfit Defensor Sporting.

The 19-year-old had since gone on to link up with Barca Atlètic, the club’s reserve outfit.

After taking some time to gather full fitness, Pacífico had over recent weeks established himself as one of the first names on Juliano Belletti’s team sheet.

Just as the versatile left-back/centre-back had begun to showcase his impressive talents, however, disaster struck.

Late last month, Pacífico was struck down by a knee injury, which was later confirmed to be an ACL tear.

And as revealed in a statement across Barcelona’s social media platforms on Monday, the Uruguay youth international has since undergone an operation as a result:

‘Barça Atlètic player Patricio Pacifico underwent successful surgery on Monday for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury he sustained during a match against UE Olot on April 19.

‘The expected recovery time will be about 12 months.’

Pacífico’s future in Barcelona beyond the summer has therefore been thrown very much up in the air.
