Barcelona youngster set to play prominent role over season’s final weeks

An up-and-coming member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is in line to play an altogether prominent role for the club over the remaining weeks of the campaign.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Fermín López as being the player in question.

Fermín, for his part, has played something of a bit-part role for Barca across the season to date, made use of for the most part as an impact substitute.

The 20-year-old, though, has to his credit managed to take advantage of such opportunities in impressive fashion, with seven goals to his name thus far.

And such production, coupled with the situation in Barcelona’s engine room at present, will see Fermín emerge as a ‘protagonist’ over the weeks ahead.

As per Sport, the latest injury suffered by Frenkie de Jong, added to by ongoing caution surrounding a potential setback for Pedri, place Fermín ‘in pole position to be a starter in the midfield’.

As much is likely to be kickstarted on Monday night, when the Blaugrana academy graduate is in line to take his place in an engine room three alongside Andreas Christensen and İlkay Gündoğan, for Barca’s La Liga clash with Valencia.
