Barcelona starlet Sergi Domínguez has late this week been compared to a player boasting legend status at the Camp Nou.
The name of defender Domínguez has emerged as a prominent one in Catalunya’s capital across the day to date.
This comes amid the widespread understanding that, owing to the facial injury suffered by Pau Cubarsí, the 19-year-old could be in line for his latest Barcelona start this weekend.
Hansi Flick’s troops are primed to make the trip to Anoeta on Sunday, with Domínguez considered as boasting a real chance of joining Iñigo Martínez at the heart of defence.
With a view to as much, one of the stopper’s former coaches on Friday sat down for an interview with Diario Sport.
And during as much, Iban Cuadrado – who oversaw Domínguez’s development during a shared stint with Barca’s Juvenil B outfit – made use of the opportunity to liken the Spaniard to Blaugrana icon Carles Puyol:
“A player with great potential to whom no one has given anything, who has suffered but who has his head on straight with great defensive qualities that makes me think of Puyi.
“Nobody was counting on Puyi either, others seemed destined to succeed and he knew how to take advantage of his moment based on character and a great capacity for improvement and in that I see Sergi Domínguez a lot.”
Cuadrado continued:
“Sergi Domínguez can succeed at Barça because he is a player who will never let you down.
“Sergi is a great marker, he wins duels, he is fast, powerful, he is always focused and dominates the aerial game and in all that he also has things like Puyol. He is working to improve his ball output and he is achieving it. If he is there it is not by chance.”
