Barcelona youngster leading Europe’s top-5 leagues in progressive passing

A head-turning statistic, highlighting the excellence of Barcelona star Pau Cubarsí when on the ball this season, has on Friday come to the fore online.

Defender Cubarsí has for his part of course continued to build on his reputation as one of the game’s standout young talents across the early months of the new campaign.

One of the first names on the team sheet of new Barcelona boss Hansi Flick, the 17-year-old has shone on both sides of the ball, establishing a stellar partnership alongside Iñigo Martínez.

Cubarsí has been widely hailed for his defensive efforts, having adapted impressively to the new offside trap implemented by Flick and his coaching staff.

And yet, it is arguably the Spanish international’s passing which has been the standout aspect of his game.

As much is certainly backed by the statistics, with it having today been revealed that Cubarsí is the leading progressive passer amongst all U23 central defenders in Europe’s top-5 leagues.

As per DataMB, the stopper, with 140, sits comfortably clear of Chelsea star Levi Colwill in 2nd.
