A highly-regarded young member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has come to a decision on his plans for next season.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Thursday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.
Ongoings at Barcelona have of course dominated the headlines across the day to date.
This comes after official confirmation regarding the decision of head coach Xavi to stay put beyond the summer was forthcoming.
And as much, it would appear, has proven decisive when it comes to the intentions of Blaugrana starlet Marc Guiu, too.
As per the aforementioned Sport, frontman Guiu has been ‘fuelled’ by the decision of Xavi to remain in charge at Montjuïc.
So much so, that the 18-year-old is ready to reject strong interest in his signature, to fight for his place next season.
Guiu’s representatives have long been in negotiations with the Barcelona brass, over the terms of a contract renewal beyond 2025.
Talks between the parties are more than advanced, with it viewed as just a matter of time before an official announcement regarding an extension is forthcoming.
It had been suggested that as much was likely to be followed by Guiu being farmed out on loan this coming summer, to secure a more regular first-team berth before returning to Catalunya a more well-rounded striker.
But this, it would appear, will not be the case:
‘The Catalan has already seen how on several scenarios Xavi has preferred him over Vitor Roque’ this season, with Guiu therefore primed to ‘compete for the Brazilian’s substitute ‘9’ position’ behind Robert Lewandowski in 2024/25.
