Barcelona ‘working on’ surprise loan deal for PSG star

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have begun work on bringing a former member of the club’s youth ranks back with a view to next season.

That’s according to El Chiringuito TV, who have on Monday provided an insight into the situation.

The player in the sights of Deco and the transfer team at Barcelona? Xavi Simons.

Simons, for his part, spent the formative years of his fledgling career developing in Barca’s famed La Masia academy.

After nine years on the books of the Blaugrana, however, the Dutch international decided to seek out pastures new back in 2019, putting pen to paper on terms with Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.

And Simons has since spent time on the books of all of the capital giants, PSV Eindhoven, and RB Leipzig – with whom he is currently in the midst of a season-long loan.

And his exploits whilst in Germany, evidently, have piqued the attentions of those back in Catalunya’s capital.

As per a report from Jose Alvarez Haya of the aforementioned El Chiringuito TV, Barcelona have opened negotiations with PSG, over the possibility of a summer reunion with Simons.

The La Liga outfit are keen on a season-long loan, potentially featuring an option to buy in the summer of 2025.

It is added that the 21-year-old, who has racked up an impressive nine goals and 15 assists this season, is ‘crazy’ about the prospect of linking back up with Barca, with a deal being struck, in turn, considered a real possibility.
