The transfer team at La Liga giants Barcelona have already begun working towards adding to the options available to Hansi Flick in one key area of the Blaugrana’s first-team setup with a view to January.
The position in question? Central defence.
Barcelona were of course widely expected to secure reinforcements at the heart of defence this past summer. Following Ronald Araújo’s departure, it appeared a near certainty that Deco and co. would ultimately splash out to bring in a new partner for Pau Cubarsí.
In the end, however, no such signing was forthcoming… Instead, the Camp Nou brass opted to bring in fresh blood in the middle of the park, and in the attacking third.
With the oft-injured Andreas Christensen having since been condemned to a fresh spell on the sidelines, though, Barcelona are just a couple more injuries from a full-blown crisis at centre-back.
In turn, the latest word stemming from Catalunya’s capital regarding transfer market plans should come as little surprise. As per a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes:
‘The Catalan club are working on signing another defender after failing to secure a left-footed centre-back.’
