Barcelona working on fresh addition to Hansi Flick’s coaching staff

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are actively working towards adding fresh blood to the staff of incoming head coach Hansi Flick.

As much has been confirmed by a number of sources on Friday, all of whom point towards one man as being in the sights of the Blaugrana.

The individual in question? Heiko Westermann.

Westermann, for his part, is a former German international, who lined out for the likes of Schalke, Hamburg, Real Betis and Ajax over the course of his career.

Since hanging up his boots back in 2018, though, the ex-stopper has delved into the field of coaching.

At present, Westermann is the assistant manager of the German U19 national team.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media this evening is anything to go by, then the 40-year-old could well be set for a new adventure, in La Liga.

As per Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, Westermann has opened talks with Barcelona, over the possibility of taking his place on the coaching staff of new Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick.

Eager to bring in something of a ‘link’ between manager and squad courtesy of an individual who can speak German and Spanish fluently, Deco and co. have identified Westermann as the ideal profile.

Discussions between the parties are understood to be developing positively, amid confidence that an agreement will ultimately be struck.
