The respective boards at La Liga rivals Barcelona and Valencia have been locked in negotiations for some time now, over the possibility of working out a deal to send Joan García to the latter on loan.
The name of goalkeeper Joan of course positioned itself front and centre in the headlines across Spain once more on Sunday evening.
This came after word was forthcoming, via Cadena SER, that Barcelona had ramped up efforts to bring the Espanyol standout in this summer.
Not only that, but it was added that Joan would likely be signed before immediately heading out on loan, potentially to another Spanish club.
Valencia, set to bid farewell to Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer, were in turn named as one potential landing spot.
And if the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is anything to go by, then this idea is not a new one on the part of the brass at Mestalla.
As per Relevo, in fact:
‘Valencia CF has positioned itself for Joan García. It all started a month and a half ago, when Valencia CF began to enter the fight for Europe. The idea was born from the offices at Mestalla to call the Catalan offices to open the door in case they signed García, assuming Ter Stegen has at least a year left (on his contract).’
Barca, in turn, have remained receptive to talks, not at all against the idea of loaning the shot-stopper out.
Discussions between the parties are expected to continue over the weeks ahead.
