La Liga giants Barcelona look increasingly likely to miss out on the signature of a long-time free agent target.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Jonathan David as the player in question.
Frontman David is for his part set to be available for little more than a signing-on fee this summer, ahead of the imminent expiration of his contract with LOSC Lille.
Amid what has been another impressive campaign on the part of the Canadian international in France – he has 23 goals and 10 assists in all competitions – a host of leading clubs have in turn begun expressing an interest in his signature.
Front and centre on the shortlist of David’s rumoured suitors have long been the aforementioned Barcelona.
Amid a search for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, David, it is understood, was earmarked as a real option by Deco and co.
If the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, however, then the 25-year-old’s arrival in Catalunya now appears increasingly unlikely.
As per a report from Sport, this comes owing to Barca’s ‘passivity’ in working out the terms of a deal:
‘Barça do see Jonathan David as a market opportunity, but their priorities are different considering that the club may have serious problems registering players due to the salary limit.’
Inter Milan and West Ham United, as a result, are now considered the favourites to land David with a view to next season.
