Barcelona to field new centre-back partnership vs Espanyol

The coaching staff at La Liga leaders Barcelona are expected to make use of a new-look central defensive partnership in the club’s next outing.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

Barcelona are of course set to return to action on Thursday night.

In the knowledge that a victory would see them officially crowned Spanish champions, the Blaugrana will make the short trip to RCDE Stadium, for a derby meeting with Catalan neighbours Espanyol.

Hansi Flick will be unable to call on several leading members of his backline for the clash, with Iñigo Martínez suspended, Jules Koundé sidelined, and Pau Cubarsí fresh off a bout of illness.

And as much, as alluded to above, could give rise to a new-look Barcelona centre-back pairing to face Espanyol.

As per a report from Diario Sport, Ronald Araújo and Andreas Christensen look set to start alongside one another for the first time all season on Thursday night.
