Barcelona tipped to miss out on two leading midfield targets

Speculation stemming from the media on Thursday points towards La Liga giants Barcelona potentially being set to miss out on not one, but two key targets on the transfer front.

This comes amid confirmation that a pair of fellow European heavyweights have entered the fray for midfield pair Amadou Onana, and Joshua Kimmich.

Beginning with the former, Belgian international Onana has made his way firmly into the sights of Bayern Munich.

As per a report from English outlet The Telegraph, the German champions ‘are ready to step up their efforts’ to bring the 22-year-old in from Everton.

Onana, for his part, has of course been hotly tipped for a move to Barcelona this summer, the Blaugrana eager to add some much-needed physicality to an area of the park in which they are otherwise sorely lacking in as much.

In the knowledge that their Bundesliga counterparts – also on the lookout for deep-lying reinforcements in the middle of the pitch – should have little problem outbidding them, though, Deco and co. could well be forced to look elsewhere.

And it will therefore come as a further blow to hear that the aforementioned Kimmich, also front and centre on the agenda at the Camp Nou, is now attracting fresh interest from the Premier League.

As revealed by Diario Sport, Manchester United have earmarked versatile midfielder Kimmich as a leading summer target.

The Red Devils are keen to source a replacement for the Saudi Pro League-linked Casemiro, with Bayern understood to be open to a sale, ahead of the expiration of Kimmich’s terms with the club in 2025.

Should Kimmich join United, and Onana make his way to Bavaria to replace him, where, then, will Barcelona turn?
