Lamine Yamal has been called into the Spain squad at the age of 16 for the Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Georgia (Tbilisi, Friday, September 8) and Cyprus (Granada, Tuesday, September 12).
Lamine has represented La Roja at U15 (six games and three goals), U16 (4/1), and U17 level (10/8). He made his debut with the U21s just a year ago and is now set for his senior debut.
The new additions to Luis de la Fuente’s squad are César Azpilicueta, Pau Torres, Alejandro Balde, José Gayà, Álex Baena, Abel Ruiz and Lamine, AS report.
There is, however, no place in the squad for Jesús Navas, Juan Bernat, Sergio Canales, Rodrigo Moreno or Yeremy Pino.
Alba retires
Jordi Alba recently announced his retirement from the national team after twelve years of service and was the last representative of the team that won Euro 2012, and Real Betis striker Borja Iglesias says he won’t play for the national team as long as Luis Rubiales continues in his role as president of the Spanish FA.
