Barcelona step up Miralem Pjanić pursuit

Talks between Barcelona and Juventus over a deal for midfielder Miralem Pjanić have intensified, according to ESPN.

The 30-year-old is open to a move to Camp Nou, however Juventus will have to accept a player exchange deal to make the transfer happen. Arthur Melo was the player Barca were hoping to do an exchange with, but the Brazilian has made it clear he wants to stay at Barcelona.

ESPN report that Arthur, Pjanić, Rodrigo Bentancur and Matthijs de Ligt had all been mentioned as part of potential swap deals during conversations between Juventus and Barcelona executives.

The Catalan club’s revenue has been hit hard as a result of COVID-19 and they are reliant on the Italian club eventually settling on accepting a player as part of the deal. Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez remains Barca’s top summer target, with the club willing to keep their cash to take him from Inter to La Liga.
