Barcelona stars’ role in Xavi staying put confirmed

The role played by the playing squad at La Liga giants Barcelona in convincing head coach Xavi to stay put has this evening been confirmed.

The news which all associated with Barcelona had so long been awaiting was of course forthcoming a short time ago.

This came in the form of confirmation regarding the club’s plans for the managerial hotseat in Catalunya’s capital for the 2024/25 campaign.

After Xavi announced back in January his decision to step down in the summer, Joan Laporta and the Blaugrana brass had spent the months since tirelessly working towards convincing their beloved tactician to change his mind.

And, as alluded to above, on Wednesday, such endeavours at long last bore fruit:

If the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, however, then the board at the Camp Nou appear to have been far from the only ones instrumental in convincing Xavi to see out the final year of his contract.

So too, according to Mundo Deportivo, was the Spaniard’s squad of players.

The 44-year-old is said to have maintained the ‘brutal and total’ support of his star-studded ranks through thick and thin across the season to date.

A number of stars went as far as to visit their manager in his office over the last couple of months, pleading with him to reconsider his exit.

‘The support of the players has been vital for Xavi to say yes this Wednesday to continue for another year.’
