Barcelona star Marc Casadó was the subject of intense summer interest by way of the Saudi Pro League.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Tuesday provided a fresh insight into developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.
Youngster Casadó has of course spent the early months of the new campaign establishing himself as the latest breakout star in Barcelona’s first-team setup.
Afforded a prolonged chance to impress owing to an injury crisis in Hansi Flick’s squad, the 21-year-old has taken full advantage, courtesy of a string of standout performances.
So much so that, just today, confirmation was forthcoming that Casadó has been labelled ‘untouchable’ by Flick and Barca sporting director Deco.
Mere months ago, though, the Blaugrana were afforded the opportunity to cash in on their midfield starlet.
As revealed by Sport:
‘This summer, and in a very confidential manner, some of the most important clubs in Saudi Arabia and some investment funds have passed through the offices of the Blaugrana.’
Eager to take advantage of the difficult financial moment being endured at the Camp Nou, one such club even went as far as to pass on an €8 million verbal offer.
In the end, however, the Camp Nou board stood firm, a decision which has since proven itself in no uncertain terms the correct one.
