Barcelona star to sit out Girona & Monaco fixtures

A sidelined member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona will not recover in time to play his part in the club’s upcoming fixtures.

That’s according to RAC1, who point towards Frenkie de Jong as the player in question.

Dutchman De Jong is for his part of course sidelined at present, owing to an ankle injury picked up all the way back in April.

The initial expectation was that the 27-year-old would be back fully fit and firing by now, to be at the disposal of new head coach Hansi Flick.

This, however, has since proven to be far from the case…

The former Ajax standout has been advised on numerous occasions by the Barcelona medical staff to go under the knife, in an effort to resolve the problem once and for all.

De Jong, however, is continuing to stand firm in opting for a more conservative treatment plan.

And this stance, it would appear, is holding up the player’s return to the pitch in a major way.

As per a report from RAC1, despite claims that De Jong could be included in Barcelona’s matchday squad to face Girona this weekend:

‘He will not be ready for either Girona or Monaco: he has no (return) date even though the coaching staff expected him post-international break.’
