Barcelona star set for long-awaited first-team debut

Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny, it is reported, will at long last be afforded his debut with the club in the Copa del Rey next month.

Goalkeeper Szczęsny, of course, put pen to paper on a short-term deal with Barcelona back in October.

Brought in as a free agent following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the 34-year-old was expected to quickly set about securing no.1 status in Catalunya’s capital.

This, however, has since proven to be far from the case.

In fact, Szczęsny is yet to take to the pitch on a single occasion, as Hansi Flick and his coaching staff continue to place their faith in the talents of Iñaki Peña.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is anything to go by, though, then the former Juventus and Arsenal man should not be forced to wait too much longer…

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘Everything points to him starting in the Copa del Rey match against Barbastro on January 4. A match that will be a litmus test to check Szczęsny’s real condition, even if it is against a much inferior opponent.’
