Barcelona star sends thank you message to fans after win over Young Boys

A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has forwarded a message of gratitude to the club’s supporters, on the back of the club’s latest outing.

Barcelona of course marked their return to action on Tuesday night, welcoming Swiss outfit Young Boys to Catalunya’s capital for a Champions League clash.

When all was said and done, Hansi Flick’s troops emerged dominant victors, by five goals to nil.

And yet, on a fine evening’s work for the Blaugrana, the eventual result proved far from the only reason to smile.

In addition, Barca welcomed back a long-term member of the club’s sidelined contingent, in the form of Frenkie de Jong.

Out of action since April owing to an ankle injury, Dutchman De Jong was introduced for his first taste of competitive action since last season late in proceedings at Montjuïc.

His arrival onto the pitch was met by a warm round of applause and cheers on the part of the home crowd, no doubt delighted to see their side’s midfield standout back in the club’s colours.

And as much, evidently, meant a lot to De Jong himself, with the 27-year-old, speaking to the media post-match, having sent something of a response to the Blaugrana faithful:

“It’s the best feeling to be back on the pitch. I want to thank the fans for their applause. It feels really good. I didn’t expect it. I’m very happy.”
