Barcelona star ruled out until after September international break

A concerning fitness update on a leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Thursday come to the fore online.

The info comes courtesy of Javier Miguel of Diario AS, and surrounds Frenkie de Jong.

Midfielder De Jong is of course sidelined once more at present.

Owing to an injury suffered whilst lining out for Barcelona back in April, the former Ajax man was forced to sit out the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 campaign.

The hope was that as much would see De Jong back fully fit and firing in time for the beginning of pre-season training back in Catalunya’s capital.

Upon new boss Hansi Flick’s troops being put through their paces for the first time last month, however, the 26-year-old was nowhere to be seen.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media on Wednesday is anything to go by, De Jong appears no closer to a return…

As per the aforementioned Diario AS, frustration is beginning to mount with the big-earning Dutchman behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.

This comes amid fresh confirmation that ‘Flick already knows that he will not be able to count on the player until after the international break in September at best.’
