Barcelona star reveals talks over becoming Kylian Mbappé’s teammate

Robert Lewandowski (35) and Kylian Mbappé (25) were almost teammates. Next season, they are expected to be fierce rivals with the latter’s transfer to Real Madrid to be confirmed.

Back in the summer of 2022, Mbappé made the shock decision to remain at Paris Saint-Germain, rather than join Real Madrid. Part of the reason for him remaining with PSG was the club’s decision to afford him more power in the decision-making, notably in terms of transfers.

Mbappé made no secret of his desire for Les Parisiens to recruit an elite level No.9. It was at the time that Lewandowski, who was set to leave Bayern Munich, came onto the market. It is within this context that Lewandowski and Mbappé reportedly met in Cannas. The latter had the intention of convincing the former to move to the Parc des Princes.

Those attempts were in vain with Lewandowski ultimately opting to join Barcelona. Speaking exclusively to Le Parisien, Lewandowski revealed that he did discuss a move to PSG with Mbappé. “It was the subject of our conversations of course. He’s 11 years younger than me, so he has his whole life ahead of him. I don’t know if one day I’ll play with him but it would be something special: easy for him and easy for me too,” said the Barcelona forward. Next season, it is highly likely that he will be playing against Mbappé, not with him.
