A leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Monday turned down a call-up from his national team.
The player in question? Robert Lewandowski.
Frontman Lewandowski is for his part fresh off bringing an altogether productive individual campaign to a close on Sunday.
Afforded a starting berth in Barcelona’s final day La Liga meeting with Athletic Club, the veteran goalscorer went on to find the net twice, to take his tally to 42 goals for the season.
And yet, Lewandowski is evidently of the opinion that he remains some way off full fitness.
After recently spending several weeks on the sidelines with a muscular injury, the 36-year-old on Monday took to social media, to confirm his withdrawal from the latest Poland national team squad.
In a post on his official Instagram account, Lewandowski wrote:
“Together with the coach, we decided that this time I will not take part in the June training camp of the Polish national team. Sometimes the body gives a signal that it’s time to take a moment to breathe. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the guys.”
