Barcelona star names teammate who has surprised him most this season

Barcelona star Iñigo Martínez has this weekend named the teammate who has left him most surprised with his excellence over the early months of the campaign.

The player in question? Marc Casadó.

Midfielder Casadó, for his part, has of course enjoyed nothing short of an explosion onto the first-team picture in Catalunya’s capital this season.

Owing to something of an injury crisis at the base of boss Hansi Flick’s midfield, the 21-year-old has been afforded a consistent opportunity to prove his talents.

And to say that Casadó has taken advantage of this chance would be something of an understatement.

Over the last couple of weeks in particular, the Spanish starlet has formed a wonderful midfield partnership with Pedri, dazzling across a trio of successive starts against Sevilla, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Speaking during an interview with Diario Sport on Saturday, the aforementioned Iñigo, in turn, made use of the opportunity to lavish praise on his young teammate.

Asked ‘has there been anyone who has particularly surprised you this season?’, the veteran defender explained:

”Well, apart from Lamine, who we saw last year what he can do, I would choose Casadó. Last year we didn’t have the chance to see him on the pitch in so many games that we could say, wow, what he brings to the team. I think he is showing his qualities, what he can give and another player who comes from the youth system. Nobody has given him anything, but he, with his effort, has managed to get here to the first team and enjoy the minutes that the coach is giving him.”
