Barcelona star matches Cesc Fàbregas benchmark in Valencia meeting

Barcelona star Fermín López on Sunday secured for himself a piece of recent history in the colours of the Blaugrana. This comes owing to his exploits in the club’s meeting with Valencia.

Hansi Flick’s Barca are currently locked in action on the domestic front, having made the trip to Mestalla with sights on a fourth successive victory to open the campaign.

The aforementioned Fermín was in from the off for the evening, from his customary berth in attacking midfield. And the 23-year-old has since gone on to build further on what has been a brilliant start to the term.

After first laying on the assist for Lamine Yamal’s early opener, Fermín turned goalscorer midway through the first-half courtesy of a fine left-footed strike.

And as alluded to above, in the process, the Spanish international etched his name into the recent record books in Catalunya’s capital. As per statisticians Opta:

‘Fermín López is the first Spanish player to score four goals in Barcelona’s first four LaLiga matches since Cesc Fàbregas in 2011/12.

‘Against Valencia, he became the first player to both score and assist in the first 25 minutes of a LaLiga match in the 2016/27 season.’
