Barcelona star left ‘very emotionally affected’ by exclusion vs Athletic Club

Barcelona star Ansu Fati has found it altogether difficult to come to terms with his complete exclusion from the club’s latest matchday setup.

Barcelona were of course back in action on Wednesday night.

After making the trip to Saudi Arabia, the Blaugrana locked horns with Athletic Club in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup.

When all was said and done, Hansi Flick’s troops marched on to a finale spot, courtesy of a 2-0 triumph.

But the aforementioned Ansu Fati played no part…

In fact, the Spaniard was not even called up by boss Flick, despite the fact that both Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor remained unavailable for selection.

16-year-old Toni Fernández was instead given the nod to take his place amongst Barcelona’s substitutes.

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then the significance of as much was not at all lost on Ansu himself.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:

‘The player is physically fit, so his exclusion took him by surprise. [It was] a rejection that left the attacker very emotionally affected.’
